Maria Luisa Park is the perfect place to explore the leafier side of Seville!. Stretching along the Guadalquivir river, the grounds were formerly the gardens of the Palace of San Telmo. They were gifted to the city in 1893 by Infanta Luisa Fernanda, Duchess of Montpensier for use as a public park. The park has a historical background in that it was the site for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929 featuring pavilions for participating countries including the United States, Brazil, Mexico, etc Creative blend of beautiful Moorish architecture fused with the Catholic European and a sumptuous parkland setting, this enormous park is spread over in 100 acres and is very close to the center of the city., containing many different tree species, landscaped gardens, monuments, fountains, lakes, ceramic features, former Exposition buildings, and the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions and pavilions constructed for Expo 1929.
The most interesting pavilions are the Mudejar and Bellas Artes. The palm trees and the incredible amount of orange trees, the famed Seville bitter oranges, make you feel like you are in a tropical oasis. The large trees offer shade and cover from the dazzling sun and the water pond with ducks and other wildlife is a pleasure on the senses. There are water features, pergolas, flower beds, statues, all beautifully laid-out; you keep finding new delights that were previously concealed until you turned a corner. Separating the building from the Plaza is a curved waterway, Little Venice, on which you may hire a rowing boat. It is spanned by bridges of elegant proportions which lead to the large Plaza with its fountain that is like a center-piece. Running trails and opportunities for carriage or cycle rides for rental. Its a large park with fountains and sculptures scattered throughout and is the perfect place for quiet reflection and enjoyment of flora and fauna.
