The Museo de San Telmo is devoted to the rich cultural heritage and history of the Basque country. Located at the San Sebastian’s Old Town, the museum is dedicated to the 16th-century Renaissance era. There are different departments showcasing the many diverse collections like fine arts, history, archaeology, and more. Explore a wide array of paintings, engravings, and sculptures and drawings that are exhibited in the fine-arts section. Masterpieces by El Greco, Alonso Cano, Morán, Ribera, Rubens, Depièce, and Coello are the highlights. Paintings by other significant Basque artists are also included in the exhibition. In the archaeology department, you will see an extensive collection of coins, ceramics, and pre-Columbian artifacts. There are also unique exhibits of the weapons from the 15th century showcased at the Department of History. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. onward with free admission on Tuesdays.
San Telmo Museum is only 950 meters from the city center. You can walk to the museum or take the bus G1/G2 from Artzain Ona/ Buen Pastor and get down at Okendo and walk about 6 minutes to reach the building. There is a bus on this route every 12 minutes starting from 6:52 a.m.
