About La Concha Beach

The crescent-shaped beach of Bay of Concha is the most iconic sight in San Sebastian with a wide shoreline and its mesmerizing turquoise waves. It is punctuated at both ends by lush green hills; Monte Urgull on the Eastern side and Monte Igueldo to the west. La Concha is the reason San Sebastian was transformed into a luxurious seaside resort favored by Spanish royalty during the 19th century, until the present day. The beach is full of tourists, especially in the summer, when the waters of the Bay are calm and pleasantly warm to swim in. The expansive beach extends for more than a kilometer and overlooks the beautiful cityscape of San Sebastian. Besides sunbathing and swimming, you can also enjoy a romantic stroll by the lovely promenade with elegant railing lined with street lamps; the Paseo de la Concha surrounds the bay along the beach.

Must See

  • There are two floating pontoons out in the bay for sunbathing.
  • Visit the rocky islet of Santa Clara by boat or canoe and enjoy a small picnic on the beach.
  • Explore the brightly painted carousel, rows of charming hotels, seafood restaurants, and bars.
  • Visit the Paseo Nuevo promenade that runs the length of La Concha.

How to reach

The beach is barely 500 meters from the city center. The best option is to take a walk to reach the spot. You can also rent a bicycle and ride along while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Tips

  • Motorboats run back and forth to Santa Clara every 30 minutes in summer from El Muelle Harbor.
  • Canoes and pedalos can be hired from multiple spots along the beach.
  • Wear sunscreen, hat, and glasses for a typical day at the beach.
  • Expect large crowds during tourist season. This is one of the most famous beaches in the country and visitors pour in every day.
  • Lifeguards are always present and there are showers and other facilities on the beach.
  • It is very safe and easy for families to enjoy a good day on the beach.
