Insadong-Gil is a traditional street representing the "culture of the past and the present." It was once the largest market for antiques and artworks in Korea. A dong or neighborhood is a sub-municipal level administrative unit of a city in Korea that is not divided into wards. It is the neighborhood of the Jongno-gu district. The main street, Insadong-gil leads to a series of alleys with tea shops and modern galleries. It is a unique area in Seoul where the majority of the traditional buildings originally belonged to merchants and bureaucrats. Unhyeongung mansion, Jogyesa-most significant Korean Buddhist temples, and Korea's oldest Presbyterian churches are among top historical buildings. Some larger residences, built for retired government officials during the Joseon period, stand testimony to its rich past. Most of these older buildings are now used as restaurants or shops. It's a well-known area for sightseeing.
