Don’t be misled by the name of the Al-Hejaz Railway Museum in Medina. It was built on the grounds and in a significant Ottoman railway station, with a section of the original track. The building was the last station built on the 810-mile Hejaz Railway.
It is not a museum about the railroad and train cars. It is dedicated to Islamic life along the railway itself. Visit the exhibition on the life of the prophet Muhammad and learn about the relics and artifacts from Medina. It will put the culture and Islamic history into perspective. Learn how the people lived before and after Islam.
The museum is divided into four halls, featuring Medina history from prehistoric times to the present. Step outside for a look at four of the original tracks, an engine, and a car of the narrow gauge railway.
