This museum offers an exciting summary of cultural development in the Americas, including native, African and European influences. Four permanent exhibitions integrate art, history, and sociology in intellectual and interesting ways; the coverage of slaveholding is particularly moving, including a play of travel on a slave ship. Audiovisual highlights and up-to-date guides enrich visits. Every Saturday at 2 p.m., classes are offered to introduce the people to various forms of folk art of the Americas. Though it is meant for children, everyone is welcomed here. We recommend you to reserve beforehand. If you're interested in buying folk art, the museum also organizes Domingo de Artesanos the first Sunday of every month, where local artists display and sell their works.
The museum is just 2.1 km away from the centre.
