Portraying almost 500 years of archives, the streets of Old San Juan (San Juan Viejo) are windows to the past, with historic fortresses and Spanish colonial design sets the scene. This World Cultural Heritage Site is the second medieval town in the Americas and the oldest city under the U.S. flag. The seven-square-block area comprises more than 400 beautifully renovated 16th- and 17th-century colonial buildings, many of which accommodate shops, restaurants, museums, hotels, and other public buildings. The most exciting feature and the real masterpiece of Old San Juan are the Fuerte San Felipe del Morro, known more commonly as El Morro, set out on a point of land overlooking the sea. But the city's real beauty can be found by simply roaming the streets, appreciating the old architecture, and experiencing a meal on an outdoor patio. This whole area can be explored on foot.
The place is just 1.2 km away from the centre. You can drive from San Juan to Old San Juan for 2 minutes.
Alternatively, you can also walk for 12 minutes to reach the destination.
