Rangitoto Island has its own distinctive volcanic cone rising 260 meters over the Hauraki Gulf. This makes it an iconic visibly-dominant landmark of Auckland, visible from the city itself. Home to the world's largest forest of pohutukawa trees, it is also the youngest volcano in New Zealand, having risen only a mere 600 years ago! A guided tour to the world-famous pohutukawa forest is a dream holiday. The island is loaded with lava caves that make exploration and hill trails extremely adventurous. It's called a walker's paradise for its long, accessible, volcanic terrain and naturally alluring, walking tracks. The place is also loved for its boating adventures as well as birdwatching. The captivating waters, enchanting wildlife, and mesmerizing serenity mark its presence at the Rangitoto Island.
It is a short 25-minute ferry ride from Auckland centre, ferries are accessible also from Devenport. Ferry cost for adults is 25 NZD and for children, 18 NZD. It is 14.7 km from the city centre.
