Mount Eden is home to the highest volcano in Auckland, which last erupted 15,000 years ago. The summit offers a complete 360-degree view of the entire beautiful city of Auckland. In 2017, the road to the mountain was closed to all motor vehicles, but cyclists can still take the summit road to reach the top. One can even hike and enjoy the natural landscape and scenery surrounding the mountain on the way up. The foot of the mountain has the famed Eden Gardens, home to a diverse variety of birds and plants. The road to Mount Eden is filled with many interesting small cafes, book stores, and vintage shops. With frequent rains, one can comfortably enjoy the warmth of cafes and bars and in good weather, the parks and gardens revel in their natural wondrous scenic beauty all around.
