About Bab Boujloud

Bab Boujloud, the monumental blue gate, consists of one of the main gates of Medina, the old city of Fes, that was rebuilt in1913. Embellished with the very beautiful blue colored zelijj from the outside symbolizes a welcome and happy place for visitors, while the green color on the other side suggests the religious Islamic beliefs. It further shows proof of the old art of zelijj and is covered in polychrome tiles having Arabic and Moroccan geometric patterns. Going beyond the claustrophobic medina leads to serpentine alleyways, dead ends, mosques, archways, palaces and business haunts.
