About Al-Attarine Madrasa

A quaint and beautiful place of traditional studies, the 14th Century Al-Attarine madrasa is probably the most beautiful place in the old city of Fes. The name of the mosque takes its name from the spice and perfume souks that surround the area. The traditional wooden artwork is beautiful, but especially the ceramic tiles, zellij (zelige) is stunning. Also, its stone and plaster carving is an amazing piece of art. It is an example of Moorish architecture, with an impressive courtyard made of traditional patterns, stucco embellishments, mosaic tiles, and Arabic calligraphy.
