About Edo - Tokyo Museum

The Edo Museum in Tokyo is a window into the lives of the people who resided in the old capital from the 1600s to late 1800s. The architecture, the culture and the rush of urbanization are visible in the exhibits at the museum. A replica of the Nihonbashi (literally meaning Japan Bridge) is placed at the entrance and this permanent exhibit is itself 400 years old! Edo is considered one of the golden periods of Japan. The distinctive elevated shape of the museum building is modeled after an old storehouse in the kurazukuri style. Tokyo gained its importance through trade. You will be greeted by Gibochan - the museum's adorable mascot who is very popular with children. This is a generous dose of history with fun included!
