Kalighat is one of the 51 Shakti Sthals present in India and is the most religious and visited Kali temple. It is said that at this place the toes of Sati's right foot fell during Shiva's Rudra Taandav dance. This is a sacred and one of the most prominent temples of the Goddess Kali in the entire world. The temple is old and has many other small shrines inside the premises. Kali's temple is the main one and is centrally placed in the premises.
It is at a walking distance from Kalighat metro station. One can hire a local bus or taxi as well.
Basic bus fare is Rs. 7 for up to the first 4 km and Rs. 15 for 9 km and after that the fare increases by Re.1 for every 4 km. The buses are available every 10 minutes.
Basic taxi fare is Rs. 30 for up to the first 2 km and after that the fare increases by Rs. 3 for every additional 2 km. The taxis are available at a regular frequency with 0 to 5 minutes wait time.
