This is the largest and the oldest museum in India, with good preservation of the historical artifacts. It has a collection of the rarest things from all over the world. The museum building reminds one of the European architecture. It has Anthropology, Art, Archaeology, Zoology, Botany, and Geology gallery sections. The museum has the rarest collection of coins, fossils, paintings, an Egyptian mummy, skeletons of a dinosaur, a whale, and a mammoth to name a few. A visit to the museum is a must for history lovers, students, and teachers as it provides an educational experience by throwing light into the ancient heritage and culture.
The nearest metro station is Park Street. One can hire a local bus or taxi to reach the museum. Basic bus fare is Rs.7 for up to the first 4 km and Rs. 15 for 9 km and after that the fare increases by Re.1 for every 4 km. The buses are available every 10 minutes.
Basic taxi fare is Rs. 30 for up to the first 2 km and after that the fare increases by Rs. 3 for every additional 2 km. The taxis are available at a regular frequency with 0 to 5 minutes wait time.
