About Fisherman's Bastion

Stunning views of the city and parliament and a fairytale-like structure build high on the hill makes Fisherman Bastion justifiably the best UNESCO World Heritage site in Hungary.   From the towers and the terrace, watch the spectacular river the Danube with its promenade, views, the Chain Bridge, the Hungarian parliament, the Castle Hills, the Gresham Palace, etc. all in one fascinating romantic panoramic view. Situated on the Buda bank of the Danube, on the Castle hill in Budapest, around striking Matthias Church with its unique castle-like turrets, arches, and plazas lies this amazing bastion in unique neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque style.  This terrace, with many stairs and walking paths, looks magnificent when it is beautifully lit up in the night or Catch its early morning beauty when it bathes in sunlight.   No wonder this Bastion is often referred to as the 'Pearl of the Budapest'.  Marvel at the bronze statue of The  Stephen 1  of Hungary mounted on a  horse.   As the name suggests, Fisherman’s Bastion used to function as the protective walls manned by the fishermen of Buda- in the Middle Ages Or did it? take a trip down the history lane and find out the mystery. See the fascinating seven towers representing the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Carpathian Basin in 1896.  Several small shops with souvenirs, good restaurants, and gardens all make the atmosphere unforgettable. Don't leave the Fisherman's Bastion without trying the Fisherman’s Soup (halaszle),  one of the top choices of tourists for trying a traditional Hungarian dish in Budapest.
