About Danube River, Budapest

The Danube is one of the most fascinating waterways in Europe. Originating from  the Blackforest of Germany and ending at the mouth of Black Sea, it is the second longest river in Europe. The river flows through ten countries. Internationally, the Danube is still a major transportation route, with more than 3500 ships passing through its delta each year for trade and tourism. It is hard to imagine Budapest without the Danube. By night Budapest is often referred to as the "Paris of the East" with its landmarks illuminated in the dark sky. Gaze at the stunning Gothic Parliament and the Charles Bridge, all overlooked by the hilltop Buda Castle. The majestic Danube divides Budapest into Buda and Pest. Take a stroll on the lovely bridges on the Danube or board a cruise or a boat to enjoy some fantastic views of the majestic Fisherman's Bastion, or the stunning St. Mattias Church. They are sure to leave you with some life long memories.

Tips

  • If your cruise leaves from Passau-Lindau (about two kilometers after Passau), there is a way to park free.
  • Near Obi (the supermarket) there is a big open and unattended car park used both by people who go to the supermarket (pay attention: it’s not Obi’s car park) and by the nearby factories’ workers during the day.
  • You can park there without any problem and any cost.
  • Check the navigability of the river before booking your cruise tickets or else you may get stranded or may have to change your travel plans.
  • Wear comfortable footwear.
  • Don't forget to carry your camera to capture the mesmerizing views.
  • Always carry an ample amount of water so that you can stay hydrated during your tour.
  • Make sure to carry sunscreen if it's sunny outside.
