About Promenade des Anglais

A major landmark at Nice is the majestic Promenade des Anglais, this is a 7-kilometer stretch which starts at the airport in the West to Quai des Etats Unis in the East. This beautiful stretch of road comprises a two-way lane with sometimes as many as 6 lanes in certain parts. all along its entirety, one is treated to many attractions.

Dating back to the early 19th century, the project was initially conceived by the English aristocracy for leisure during their vacations and Nice was found as the most suitable destination. In time, this ambitious project turned into one of the most beautiful promenades along the French Riviera

The accessibility of the various tourist sites like those of Phoenix Park, the Museum of Asian Arts, Hotel Negresco, Palais de la Mediterranee from the Promenade is truly commendable Most of the beaches in Nice-whether public or private; are all nestled between Baie des Anges and Promenade des Anglais.  South Way is generously sprinkled with kiosks, pergolas and palm trees and has the added attraction of footpaths and cycle paths. Nice's Mediterranean waterfront is sufficiently lined with bars and restaurants which add to its allure. Overall, it is a fabulous sightseeing hotspot, providing easy access to the beach and the ideal route for roller-skaters and cyclists. The promenade also organizes the sundry top event and the Carnival of Nice is one of them.

The promenade spans the entire Nice coast from the Nice Cote d’Azur Airport to the Quai des Etats Unis in Old Town. One can get to the Promenade from the Airport:

L2. It takes 16 minutes and the fare is about 1.50 Euros

By Taxi:

It is about 4.3 km. Takes about 4 minutes and costs between 34.61 to 41.77 Euros

By Towncar:

Takes about 4 minutes and costs between 14.32 to 25.06 Euros

By Uber:

Takes about 4 minutes and costs between 11.34 to 15.51 Euros

By Walk:

Takes about 41 minutes


Tips


  • If you really want to see the beauty of the promenade, then walk, bike or cycle from the airport into Nice
  • A stroll at sunset will be a real treat 
  • Dress as per the weather
  • Use plenty of sun protection in summer
  • Reserve a table or lounge chair if you’re planning to stop at a private beach along the promenade
  • Expect large crowds during the summertime which is the peak season
  • Beware of pickpockets 
  • Lockers are available at some private beaches
