Its a most beautiful square of Nice, with its elegant ochre-colored arcade facades and graceful albizzia trees. It is an ideal spot to relax on the terraces pf café and restaurant. Its architecture style has a very Italian feel. The square is mostly pedestrianized with a tram-line and one lane of traffic running through the middle. Named after the Italian military figure, Giuseppe Garibaldi, his large statue dons the center of the square.
It is centrally placed and is a crossroads between the old town, Nice center, and the port. It is always busy place as many cafés and restaurants line the square. The plat du jour at Café de Turin is Nice’s oldest and best seafood restaurant. Many restaurants remain open quite late into the night. Here street musicians. often. eke out their living by earning a few euros from the tourists. Whenever there is a big sporting event, bars put up big screens outside. On every 3rd Saturday of the month, there is a flea market with stalls selling everything from charming antiques to knick-knacks.
