Jardin Albert 1er is one of Nice’s oldest public gardens. It extends to Place Masséna across from the sea. Its large lawn is surrounded by palm trees, fragrant roses, carob trees, junipers as well as various plants from Japan, China, the Americas, Australia, and the Himalayas. Recently, it was renovated and now has more shaded seating areas, toilets, and improved walkways.
The park hosts numerous festivals during the summer, notably the Nice Jazz Festival every July. Theatre de Verdure, a popular concert venue is within the park. Acres of greenery surround the vast stretches of lawn with ponds and fountains. Across from the sea, it extends to Place Masséna. This is a vast area for strolling and relaxing with a bandstand and a late-19th-century theatre in the green (Théâtre de Verdure). It hosts many events in summer. ‘L’Arc de Venet - 115°5’, a huge black metal arc 19 meters high, has been there since 1988 which was presented as a gift by the contemporary artist, Bernar Venet.
The park in the city centre runs from Place Massena, linking the Promenade des Anglais to the old town of Vieux Nice
