Mosque of Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi is a popular historic mosque in Alexandria. Dedicated to the 13th century Alexandrine Sufi saint el-Mursi Abul Abbas, the mosque houses his tomb and stands proudly overlooking the eastern harbor. The beautiful cream-colored Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque is 23 meters high with a huge minaret rising 73 meters. It is one of the most beautiful landmarks of the city and can be clearly seen from the sea. The floors, made of white marble look stunning, along with the highly decorated windows and ceiling. Prayers take place every day and visitors are always welcome here. Surrounded by eye-catching Islamic mosaics, tiles, and impressive woodwork, it is one of the most beautiful mosques of Egypt. Al Mursi was a major saint in history, so his tomb here is a pilgrimage place and draws visitors across the globe. Several successive mosques have been rebuilt and modified on this site. The latest renovation happened in the 1940s where the mosque was redesigned and reconstructed to what you see today.
