The Corniche is a beautiful waterfront promenade in Alexandria, running along the Eastern Harbor. It is one of the main corridors for traffic in the city. Built in 1870, the Corniche is a major landmark of Alexandria. The western end begins at the Citadel of Qaitbay and runs for almost ten miles and ends at Montaza. Much of the architecture belongs to the 19th and early 20th centuries. Here, you can get a real feel of cosmopolitan elegance and new-world charm. The Corniche is a major symbol of the city, and as important as any other major attractions of Alexandria. Check out the colonial remnants of the Windsor Palace Hotel and Cecil Hotel to get the feel of the old world. Both hotels have endeavored to restore and maintain much of their original Edwardian elegance. The Corniche can get very windy during some days. So always keep a jacket handy during your visit. It is a very scenic place with many photo opportunities.
