Cavafy Museum Alexandria used to be the residence of the popular Alexandrian-Greek poet Constantine Cavafy. He spent his last 25 years living in this tiny apartment above a brothel, which has been converted into a museum today. It has six rooms preserved, with two of the rooms arranged as Cavafy kept them. The furniture that once belonged to him was sold by his family but has been restored from old photographs. The museum pretty much looks like his original home. Editions of his publications and photocopies of his manuscripts, correspondence, and notebooks are spread out on tables throughout the rooms. A collection of beautiful portraits and paintings adorns the walls of the museum. For those who love Cavafy's poetry, this is definitely a place of worship. It is not very popular among locals and is not easy to locate. Guided tours are mostly not available, so GPS is a good option to help find the museum with ease.
It is 7.2 km from the city center. The best way to reach is by taxi. The ride will cost you around EG£16 to EG£19.
