Gardens are common in Bogota. But, this is one of Colombia’s biggest botanical gardens and is located amidst the mesmerizing landscape of the city of Bogota. Founded in 1955 and named after the famous botanist and astronomer James Celestino, the park stretches across 19.5 acres of land. It houses a wide collection of plants grouped by their original ecosystem. It serves both as a recreation center for tourists as well as a research base for botanists who can study the Andean and Paramo ecosystems in the labs built inside the garden. There are other elements of tourist interest such as an artificial waterfall, a public library, a tourist information desk, a sun clock, a palmetum and orchid collection along with a wide variety of Amazon flowers. Also, this garden is famous for collecting and preserving different Andean species of flowers.
