Attracting tourists and Catholic pilgrims alike, Iglesia De San Francisco is an important tourist attraction for Bogota. This was built between 1550 and 1595 by the order of Franciscan brothers. Considered as a religious temple for all Catholic worshippers under the name of San Francisco de Assis, the church holds religious and historical importance as well. The church encompasses an Altar of colonial gold. There are several small churches along with other elements representing the old time of the colony. The church carries the history of the city of Bogota and is definitely a place for tourist interests. It is one of the oldest surviving church of Bogota. The dark interior, with a steady trickle of pilgrims and the mild hum of prayers, will give you a strange sense of calm. The gilded, U-shaped historic altarpiece is the largest and most magnificent of its kind in the capital.
