This is an underground Roman Catholic Church built within the tunnels of a 200 meters salt mine running below the Halite mountain and is one of the popular destinations for tourists and pilgrims. The cathedral was carved out by removing 250,000 tons of salt. The empty space is lit up to create a spiritual ambiance within its chapels and naves. A colossal cross adorns the church which is quite a sight to see. Visitors are taken on an hour-long tour inside the church. The tour will take you through the fourteen stages of Jesus’ crucifixion, the illuminated cupola, and the stunning nave. The 75 meters long mine can easily accommodate more than 8400 people a day.
