Built to keep enemies away from the established Empire, the Fortifications of Xi’an represent one of the oldest military defensive systems and one of the best, preserved protection arrangements. Created as a symbol of a “Unified Country” and to maintain the Empire safe, Emperor Yuanzhang ensured to fortify the city with the strongest and highest wall. The Fortification was perfectly designed for soldiers to shoot their enemies while standing on the other side of the wall; supportive structures were built on the inner side of the wall preventing soldiers from falling off and to successfully sabotage the enemy’s plan to take over the city.
