About Old Town of Lijiang

How to reach

It is 0.2 km away from the city center.

You can reach there on foot as it is near to the city center.

Tips

  •  One will never get lost in the city simply by remembering this golden rule. Follow the direction of the water flowing and it leads one into the city and against the flow of the water will lead one out of the city.
  • Ask the cab driver to drop you off before the gate entrance in front of the hill and go into the old city through the hill up to the stairs. The view from up there is amazing and it feels much more authentic and has way fewer tourists.
  • Try to stay off Main Street as the side streets have a much more authentic feel and have tons to do as well. 
  • Before shopping check the price on Baidu or Taobao if you can make it, if not, ask the host or hotel staff. Negotiate the price ( 50% off the selling price).
  • Avoid the rainy and also the peak season. The weather will be very humid.
  • Climb up to the lion hill where there are quite a few cafes, pick a cafe high up and enjoy the view while sipping coffee.
  • Explore the pubs at night.
  • Don't eat at the club street, the eateries aren't very hygienic.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. the cobbled streets aren't made for walking long distances.
