About Leshan Giant Buddha

As a symbol of stability, prayer, and meditation, here comes the Giant Buddha statue that looks over everyone's life-giving a sense of austerity and equilibrium. Carved out of a cliff of red sandstone, this 71- meters statue, stands tall, perfect posture and facial symmetry, all to signify solemnity and importance of life balance. Located to the east of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, the Buddha statue represents a very important Chinese landmark that depicts culture and devotedness to a faith that promotes life's steadiness through contemplation.

How to reach

It is 155 kms away from the city center.

You can reach there by Train or Bus.

Train: 
One can take Chengdu-Leshan-Emeishan Intercity High-Speed Train from Chengdu to Leshan Railway Station, and then change to bus 3 to reach this site.

Bus: It is 100 miles (about 162 kilometers) from Chengdu City to Leshan City if one travels by the expressway. Visitors can take a long-distance bus from Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station to Leshan Xiaobo Bus station, and then change to city bus 13 to this site. With a distance of 31kilometers (about 19 miles), the city is also connected with Emei City by a freeway, and there is a regular bus every ten minutes. Besides, there are buses to/from Chongqing, Neijiang, Zigong, Yibin, and Ya'an. Buses to nearby counties are also available.

Tips

  • If you are over 60, by showing your ID you can pay half the price.
  • Bring a fisheye lens to get the whole Buddha in your selfie!
  • Go early in the morning to avoid the rush.
  • Consider taking a boat ride to see the Buddha, especially if you aren't interested in the Oriental Buddha Capital Park.
  • If you go by boat you miss the queues and get a great perspective
  • Wear your rain gear as it can rain at any time.
  • Do not swim in the turbulent waters around the statue; a lot of people died trying it.
  • Avoid visiting during the weekends.
