About Pao de Acucar

The Pao de Acucar (aka cable car) is an excellent ride to get to the top of the Sugar Loaf Mountain. The cable car can hold up to 60 people and is a fast and exhilarating ride that gets you to the top of the mountain next to Sugar Loaf. No fear as it's all very safe and organized. You can have lunch or a snack as you take in the amazing views from the Morro da Urca. Perfect for families out on a picnic. Sugar Loaf is located in Urca with two cable cars going to to the top. The first mountain is around 220m high, from there you see the beauty of Guanabara Bay and even the city of Niteroi, across the bridge. The second mountain is the legendary Sugar Loaf, 396m high and presents an amazingly breathtaking view!  Get ready to witness the complete 360-degree views of the beautiful city. With this one can conclude that  Rio is no doubt the most natural city in the world.

Tips

  • Go early in the afternoon, since most tourists go first thing in the morning and the lines are longer.
  • Try to stand directly at one of the windows on the cable car ride. You'll get some great photos while traveling up or down the mountain depending on where you're located.
  • Senior citizens should always carry your passport to get the cheaper prices as these rides are expensive.
  • Book your tickets online to avoid the rush.
  • Go up at the end of the afternoon, and see the sunset, and then Rio´s night lights from above.
  • Parking is horrendous here. If possible, get a driver and a separate guide so you do not waste time waiting for the car to be parked.
