About Christ the Redeemer

Rio, besides being one of the most famous tourist sites in the world, is actually fun to visit and enjoy the train ride with tourists almost from every country in the world, intermingling, sharing experiences and trying all sorts of funny positions to get the best possible capture for their photos!! Great fun indeed!! Christ the Redeemer symbolizes the pain and also comes across as a loving father. This is a nice place to take a look at the wonderful city of Rio de Janeiro. Although the statue is now one of the New Seven Wonders of the World made of soapstone, high up on Corcovado Mountain, this Art Deco Masterpiece is something which must be experienced! Even the journey to the statue is awesome and the views from the top are spellbinding and breathtaking! This is very popular in the summer months. Morning is the best time of day for pictures as the sunlight hits the front of the statue giving it a glorious aura. So come over and get the feel of being truly blessed while on holiday.

Must See

  • The colossal statue of Christ the Redeemer on the Corcovado hilltop is perhaps, the most famous Brazilian monument and landmark. From here, you can have an almost 360º view of the city which is a breathtaking sight.
  • Also, get an eye-full of the Tijuca National Forest.
  • At the top of the mountain, where the monument is, there are several shops, that sell souvenirs or food.

How to reach

It is 12.2 km away from Rio city center.

A train ride to Corcovado leaves every half hour.

Train fare: 4.20 $

Tips

  • Buy tickets online upfront to avoid blocked hours for groups.
  • Go early morning or late afternoon. Do not plan in advance as weather and visibility are key.
  • Sit on the side of the train closest to the boarding platform as it goes up the mountain. You'll see some spectacular views along the way.
  • Take your own drinks and food up with you as the cafes and eateries are pretty exorbitant.
  • Go with a tour group and beat any queues.
  •  Plan on going early because it gets really crowded.
  •  If you can afford it, hire a taxi to take up to the visitor center and wait for you to get back. It’s the fastest and is not terribly expensive if your budget is in USD or Euros.
  • Exchange your money outside, the rate is so much higher.
  • It can get very hot at the top so consider taking a hat and suntan lotion.
  • Get the perfect selfie though this may be an art in itself and the best  time is early in the morning.
