About Claudio Coutinho Trail

The Pista Claudio Coutinho is a 2km trail located between the sea and Morro Do Urca. It is a lush green trail frequented by runners, hikers, and tourists. The trail offers stunning views of the Praia Vermelha (Red Beach). It is a fairly easy trail and takes approximately 40 minutes to cover. One can spot local flora and fauna along the trail including monkeys and several native birds. There are plenty of photo opportunities here and nature lovers will truly appreciate the place. There are several hiking trails branching out from here that range from moderate to hard, some of which require experienced guides and hiking gear.  This splendid landmark has been credited the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “Roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Surely, wouldn't be great to Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from?.

Must See

  • The trail has a 5 km round trip and you see beautiful birds, monkeys, etc.. Also you can take a walk up to the first mountain of Sugar Loaf, about, 20min walking up a hill. Stunning views of Rio. It´s definitely a MUST GO!!!
  • One of the closest ones is this nice sidewalk that goes half way along Urca and Sugarloaf mountains.

How to reach

It is 10.3 km away from Rio city center.

You can reach there by Bus which stops at Avenida Pasteur proximo ao 458.

Tips

  • Do not feed wild animals as it can be dangerous.
  • Beware of monkeys if you are carrying food, although some people do feed them.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
  • Bring your camera, as there are plenty of photo opportunities.
  • Do not attempt hiking trails without experienced guides and gear.
  • Go by taxi or Uber for a more enjoyable experience. Don’t try to park here.
  • Parking is very hard. On a weekend you need to arrive before 10 a.m or after 4 p.m to be sure. Otherwise, you might find yourself waiting for a long time.
