This aquarium is a great place to catch up on the aquatic life of Brazil, the Caribbean, and the surrounding region. There are also some species from other parts of the world - for example, the king crab which is indigenously from cold waters. The species are widely scattered in the museum and the info cards are well written to inform about the aquatic creatures. Rio’s aquarium is great, not just for the kids, with the amazing experience of passing through a tunnel underwater where you can get “close” to the big sea animals which truly is an awesome experience. Modern and interactive, you can easily spend half a day here though It’s a bit pricey, by Brazilian standards. Don’t miss the fish session where you can create your character to “navigate” like a fish and also have a picture taken of yourself and family. A beautiful experience perfect for all ages is to take an educative tour of these amazing creatures from the Ocean.
It is 5 km away from Rio city center.
To get here, you can take the VLT (which has stops at the metro stations of Cinelândia and Carioca) to the Utopia Aquario stop.
There's also a Bike Rio stand out front.
