Built in an open field in Lashany, 25 km North-West of Minsk, this is worth a visit especially if you are interested in history. The place is a hub of information related mainly to WWII.
Though the theme is WWII, you can also find some modern military hardware from the 1960s and 70s. The fortifications along the western border began in the 1920s which aimed to protect the USSR against attacks from the West. The remains of these fortifications are now converted as a defence museum. The place once had an impressive collection of bunkers and weapon emplacements, which was later replaced by newlines built at the frontier of USSR.
The museum has a collection of trenches, bunkers and other fortifications. It also includes technology such as radar systems, warplanes, helicopters, tanks and other weapons. The visitors are free to try some of this equipment.
Apart from having a look at the exhibits, you can also indulge in various activities offered here. Try your hand at firing machine guns, ride a tank, or even board a Soviet Helicopter which takes you on short but scenic flights. There are also other activities unrelated to the theme of the museum. These include a boat ride in an artificial lake, enjoying a picnic on the lawns between the tanks and many more.
• Get to see the bunkers which were a part of the namesake ‘Stalin Line’. The dummies in period uniforms bring ‘life’ to the interiors
• The anti-tank obstacles and the reconstructed trenches can give you a feel of the war
• Satisfy your curiosity of how a war site would look with a reconstructed stretch of the ‘Iron Curtain’, border fortifications with a watchtower, barbed-wire fences, and mine strips
• There is an open-air display of the post WWII exhibits like artillery pieces, armored vehicles, and tanks. You can also find a collection of modern war gear like MiGs, warplanes and military helicopters
• Pay homage to the bust of Josef Stalin surrounded by wreaths and flowers at the gate of the complex
• Engage in various activities like boat rides on an artificial lake, firing machine guns. Soviet helicopters can offer you short and scenic flights
Distance from Minsk National Airport to Stalin Line Museum is 60 km
