Stretching more than 15 km, Independence Avenue is the longest street of Minsk. It is very popular as it consists of many landmarks and includes five different avenues in itself. Most of the buildings here were destroyed in the Second World War but the city was rebuilt in the grand Stalin’s empire style: with wide boulevards lined with ornate imperial grandeur buildings. During public holidays, almost all of the National Parades begin here. There are many Government buildings surrounding the area, like The Government House, City Council, KGB Headquarters, Post Office, House of Officers, Residence of the President and so on. So photography may be prohibited around these places. All the buildings here are a clear example of Soviet civil architecture.
