Cathedral Church of Saint Michael and All Angels
The Anglican Cathedral with a great period architecture is only five minutes walk from Heroes Square and has the most beautiful views from the side of the island.
The original church construction was built from wood in between 1660 and 1665, later destroyed by a hurricane in 1780, the church was rebuilt nine years later. The Cathedral is made of coral stone and a charming place to spend a few quiet moments away from the bustling life of the city. There is a large cemetery next to the cathedral, has hundreds of elaborate gravestones. The graves of some very famous Barbadians and colonial soldiers are situated here. Inside the church, one can see the unique glass windows, the curved single covered ceiling, impressive choir organ pipes, upper side balconies, and a marble font dating back to the 1600s. It has a remarkable clock tower. There are many old brass plaques attached in the interior walls. It is still under renovation so some donations are appreciable.
