Barbados Museum & Historical Society
The museum is located in Barbados' UNESCO World Heritage Property and reveals the island’s rich history, culture, and heritage. There is a section of the exhibits of the wildlife and ocean life of Barbados. The Museum gallery displays Natural History, Amerindian Culture, Barbadian History, African and European Decorative Arts, Antique Maps and Prints. One can get an idea about how the British ran the island and most importantly the museum was once the home of the former British Military Prison.
At the entrance, there is a showcase display of an umbrella with Rihanna's signature on it to mark the success of the song "Umbrella". Pleasant gardens provide a lovely atmosphere, especially in the evening. The Museum conducts visiting exhibits of modern art among other temporary displays. In the month of December, an Art Festival is organized in the museum by Historical Society, where local arts and crafts are displayed. There is a gift shop with many great books about this island's history and is also an ideal place for unique Barbadian souvenirs and gifts such as prints, 18th-century maps, and books. The museum cafe offers lunches, teas or a quick snack.
By driving or renting a car it will take 8 minutes.
