Carlisle Bay
Carlisle Bay is a crescent-shaped bay and natural harbor adjoining the capital city Bridgetown on the west coast of Barbados. Located on the Southern side of Antigua in the British West Indies, Carlisle Bay is very close to Downtown and is open to the public. It is named after the Earl of Carlisle, James Hay, who was Lord Proprietor of Barbados in the 1600s. Popular Pebbles Beach, on the south side of the bay, offers a pleasing crescent of soft, white sand and calm waters for swimming. The beach is wide and uncrowded. There are vendors renting chairs and an umbrella. The bay lies in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The marine park located at Carlisle Bay is a favorite spot for scuba diving and snorkeling. There are 6 shipwrecks in the bay, which attracts an abundance of marine life such as tropical fish, sea horses, rays, octopus, turtles, and eels. The calm waters and soft sandy beaches make this the perfect place for sunbathing and swimming. Carlisle Bay has many eateries and a few beach bars in the area. The beach bars provide restrooms, showers and food & drink services. The three main beach clubs are the Boatyard, Copacabana and Harbor Lights.
A very nice dive excursion boat arrives every hour and takes you to a nearby location where you can snorkel over a shipwreck. Shopping options are also nearby if anyone is interested. A great place for the kids to enjoy.
You can take a shuttle to the town, then a short walk to the beach. You can also take a taxi from the port to the beach.
