The mosque dates back to seventh century. It is said that the building is made from materials of Ghumdan palace. Some authentic Islamic scriptures states the history back to the period of Muhammad. During the restoration in 1972, Sana'a manuscript was found. The manuscript contained some earlier verses of Quaran which are slightly different from today's version of Quran. History of the region can easily be lived here.
