Hellfire Pass memorial is a cutting on the former Death Railway in western Thailand. The museum is the central attraction as it helps to understand the origins and reason behind the memorial. To enter the museum, you will have to remove your shoes, just like entering a Buddhist temple. The beginning will be with a short intro video about the memorial. The central part of the museum comprises mostly of text panels, artifacts, and various documents of those men who kept diaries, some drew, and some of them did both.
The audio guide explains the history of the memorial. It tells about the Australian POWs who were forced by the Japanese Captors. It features their interviews with the survivors who describe their stories about how bad they were treated and forced to work, the diseases they suffered through, the meager food offerings, and their Japanese guards' tortures. The museum's main exhibit will lead to Hellfire Pass itself, where there is the hiking trail beyond. Here, one can find little Australian flags which have been laid down. A few original artifacts are placed too. At the far end of this Hellfire Pass, there is a black granite empty tomb in memory of all those who lost their lives on the Death Railway. Beyond this comes different sites like Hammer and tap cutting, Hintok cutting, and many more. Finally begins Hintok River camp where you can stay for camping which will cost you but both museum and hiking trail is nominally free.
