About El Retiro Park

Madrid, the city of romance and lush natural beauty, has at its heart one of the most eye-catching parks, El Retiro Park. The largest park in Madrid, covering more than 125 hectares and surrounded by ponds and statues. Before it became a public park it belonged to the monarch. Today has been voted as one of the best places to visit in Madrid, a green oasis and called the city's lungs.

At the entrance, visitors are welcomed by a serene artificial pond and the statue of the late King Alphonso XII. As the park was constructed by the Spanish Monarch, the park's landscape contains several royal artifacts. The park also contains fountains, monuments, rose gardens, galleries, and museums. Retiro Park is the place where you will see and feel the soul of the city. It is a favorite among locals and tourists alike and has gems within like the Jardin de Vivaces, the Jardines de Cecilio Rodriguez, the Jardines del Arquitecto Herrero Palacios, Parterre Frances and so on. Furnished with around 15,000 trees and a Mexican conifer nearly 400 years old, it looks like another green city in the midst of the city of Madrid. The park is a popular spot for boating, a leisurely stroll, puppet shows, sports activity, and exhibition displays. So if you seek to immerse yourself in Spanish culture and would also love to unwind, just head to El Retiro Park.
