About Victoria Street Market

The Victoria Street Market, on the corner of Queen is like stepping into another world, with its blend of all things Indian and African. Spices and incense rent the air in which more than 170 stalls display their wares. This is the place where you can buy every type of food and spices, including a fish market downstairs - a food lover’s delight. The Indian community in Durban is the largest outside of Asia. They have had a deep influence on the culture of the city of Durban, and the open-air markets situated in the Victoria Street Market were first opened in the 1870s. You can recognise the place by the aroma of the spices itself. You can also buy handlooms, handicrafts, toys, oriental ceramics, and Chinese wholesale goods.
