The Triple Bridge, probably the most well known and most beautiful of all bridges in the city and represent a popular meeting point and place for street musicians and artists. It’s a historic crossroads between Prešeren Square, Ljubljana’s central square and the city’s picturesque Old Town. Triple Bridge (Tromostovje) is an intriguing pedestrian bridge that spans the Ljubljanica River. Walk across each of the three bridges to appreciate their architectural features. Among these are balustrades and artistic streetlamps. Sit on one of the benches lining the central bridge, gaze over Prešeren Square and spot the turrets of Ljubljana Castle. Look for the elegant colonnade, which stretches above the river banks from the south side of the bridge.Enjoy uninterrupted views along the peaceful Ljubljanica River from the side bridges. A set of graceful staircases lead down from the bridges to riverside terraces and pathways. The bridge is a great starting point for visiting many other major city attractions. Prešeren Square, to the north, is a hive of activity and home to the Baroque masterpiece the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation. Observe the Prešeren Monument, dedicated to the poet France Prešeren.
The south side of Triple Bridge opens out onto the streets of Ljubljana’s medieval Old Town. Check out the replica of Francesco Robba’s fountain outside the Town Hall. Marvel at the frescoes at St. Nicholas’ Cathedral and browse for handicrafts and organic food at Central Market. Walk or ride a funicular up Castle Hill to the majestic Ljubljana Castle.
The bridge has a Venetian look on it – it was designed with a lot of Italian influence and looks like you would find it in Venice. A beautiful place just to stand on the bridges and watch the world go by. Particularly charming in the evening with the architectural background and the lit up Ljubljana Castle on the hill overlooking down the old town. There are usually buskers and other street entertainers on the bridge creating a lovely atmosphere. There are lots of delightful outdoor cafes, restaurants and ice cream stands in the area as well.
