Ljubljana Cathedral also referred to as St. Nicholas' Cathedral or Cathedral of St. Nicholas, or simply the Cathedral, is a cathedral in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Originally, Ljubljana Cathedral was a Gothic church. In the early 18th century, it was replaced by a Baroque building. It is an easily recognizable landmark of the city with its green dome and twin towers. Located at Vodnik trg Square by the central market and opposite the Triple Bridge its surroundings are both vivid and constantly busy. The cathedral staff is very welcoming and caring.
The Cathedral of St. Nicholas is the main church of Ljubljana and also the biggest. The highlight of the church is the interior design. Step inside the church and you will be in awe of the wide pink marble, the gilt and the white stucco, extravagantly decorated by some of the famous artists. Other noticeable features of the church are the pair of bronze sculptured doors, baroque style frescos and the hand crafted choir stalls, organ and altar. One can get a great photo of the cathedral from Dragon Bridge, with one of the famous green Ljubljana dragons in the foreground. The Cathedral has a rich history and is excellent for photography - the colours and way light bathes the interior makes shooting clean and easy.
