The Robba Fountain (Robbov vodnjak) is an interesting work of art and a famed Ljubljana monument. The initial site of the fountain was in front of Ljubljana’s Town Hall at the heart of the Old Town. For centuries it has served as both a public gathering point and a symbol of Baroque art. See the replica standing here today and appreciate the artistic talent of Robba. The overall structure of the monument is that of a Roman fountain with three river gods representing three Carniolan rivers - the Sava, the Krka and the Ljubljanica. The ground plan is designed in a form of ancient three leaf town seal. According to the history, this masterpiece was probably Robba’s last work. Look at the east to spot the bell towers and dome of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Go to the main branch of the National Gallery of Slovenia, located close to Tivoli Park, to see the original fountain. It stands in the gallery’s vestibule and was moved here in 2008 to prevent it from decay.
Visit the original and replica of one of Slovenia’s most important Baroque monuments, designed by the great Italian sculptor Francesco Robba. Also called the Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers, the Robba Fountain is said to symbolize the river gods of the historic region of Carniolan. Venetian-born Francesco Robba created the fountain in the mid-1700s as one of his last gifts to the city. Sit on the fountain’s steps and enjoy views of the Town Hall, which has a facade adorned with Venetian architectural features. Robba`s masterpiece stands in the middle of the Town Square and with the adjacent Town Hall and neighbouring Cathedral of St. Nicholas assembles the most beautiful baroque sight of Ljubljana.
