The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official residence of the British royals in Scotland. Situated amid the splendid gardens in the centre of Edinburgh it gives you a breathtaking view of Arthur’s Seat. The Queen meets here to conduct her important official business, as well as host lavish engagements and garden parties.
Today, the Palace is open to the public where you can come and visit the magnificent state rooms. There are many amazing portraits and even the famous Darnley jewel, which was likely made for Margaret Douglas, the mother of Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley.
Along the hallways, you will first come across Mary, Queen of Scots’, bedchamber and the Royal Dining Room. There is a royal vault, which was attacked twice and the contents left in disarray.
