The Stavropoleos Monastery got its name from the Greek word Stauropolis meaning, "City of the Cross." It is dedicated to the Saint Archangels Michael and Gabriel. Their paintings can be found inside the main church. After an earthquake in the 19th century, it underwent a renovation and in the early 20th century, the impressive dome and breath-taking fresco paintings were restored. So, feast on the building's beautiful facade and opulent interiors. The choir, established in 1994, offers inspiring performances all through the year, particularly in Byzantine Music. It also houses a fascinating collection of music books of Byzantine music in its impressive library. There are nuns staying in the monastery.
