About Lipscani, Old Town

The true heart of Bucharest, the real showpiece of the city's ethos. Once the political and economic pulse point, today Lipscani is the liveliest and most happening area of the city. It is not only a tourist's paradise but also a truly commercial area right from its very inception. Located near the ruins of the old Princely Court, it was built by Vlad 3, the Impaler. It was at the beginning of the 1400s that merchants and craftsmen set up their shops and stores here. It is a vibrant pulsating center of historic architecture, old churches, outdoor cafes, live music, night clubs, shopping centers, hip bars, pubs, and restaurants. Architectural marvels include University Square, Old Palace of the Chamber of Commerce, Old Court. The architectural styles to be found here include the Baroque, Neo-Classical and Art Nouveau. Old Churches of Zlatari, Solari, and Stavropoleos stand out too.
