About CEC Palace

Beautiful old landmark building with a glass dome. At the intersection of two of the most important streets of Bucharest, Calea Victoriei and Strada Lipscani, this one stands proud in the city center. Stunning architectural marvel with grand exteriors and classy interiors. It was built in 1900. The corner used to be one of the most important places for commerce and industry. It has a beautiful cupola too.

Tips

  • Amazingly beautiful when lit up during the night. A trip in the late evening should not be missed.
  • Guided and non-guided tours are available.
  • The massive building, which was built at the order of late communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, is a landmark for the Romanian capital.
  • It is the world’s largest administrative building (for civilian use) and the second-largest building in the world after the Pentagon in the US. It is also the world’s heaviest building.
  •  It is open for visiting between 10:00 and 16:00 (the last tour at 15:30). You might want to call in advance to find out at what time the tours start and in what language they are available.
  • If you want to take pictures inside, you have to pay an additional fee of RON 30 (EUR 6.66).
  • The access in the building is allowed only based on a valid ID card or passport 
  • Smoking is not allowed inside the People’s Palace
  • Drinking alcohol or any other drinks (tea, coffee, juice) that can damage the goods in the building is also forbidden
  • Don’t leave personal belongings or luggage unattended or in the care of other people
