About Palácio Nacional de Sintra

Also, known as the Palace of Sintra or Town Palace, this enormous and beautiful structure is located in the town of Sintra, in the Lisbon District of Portugal. It is a present-day historic house museum. This national edifice has two high chimneys, of 33-meters each, which serve as the symbol of Sintra. It boasts of the world’s biggest collection of Mudéjar and Azulejos.

The palace magnificent and gorgeous was in 2007 considered to be one of the 7 wonders of Portugal. An extremely popular palace, it attracts millions of visits every year. Once you’re there, ensure that you see the Relógio de Sol (Queen’s terrace), the staterooms which include the King’s chambers, the Hall of Swans, and the Palatine Chapel. Apart from these, there are so many other interesting things to see including the statue of the mythical gargoyle that is standing guard at the gateway entrance. An integral part of the cultural landscape of Sintra, the palace is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

How to reach

The attraction is 35.1 km away from the city centre. You can easily reach by bus.  Board Bus no 435 and 434 which will connect Sintra to the Palácio de Monserrate. The ticket cost is €5.00.

  • Local guides are available, make sure you book them in advance.
  • Eating inside the museum is prohibited.
  • Mobiles should be kept in the silent mode.
  • No not talk loudly or create a nuisance.
  • The premises are clean and neat, do not little garbage.
  • Outside cafes offer some basic local cuisine, do try them.
  • Heavy luggage should be submitted outside.
  • Avoid visiting on weekends.
