Museu de Calouste Gulbenkian houses the finest collection of artworks. The museum is situated in the lush gardens named after the American oil magnate born in 1869, who left behind his finest art collection to Portugal after his death in 1955. A fountain was created owing to his endowment and art complex constructed. The museum houses a collection of 6000 art pieces and displays over 1400 works which are further divided into Egyptian art, Greco-Roman art, Mesopotamian art, Eastern Islamic art, Armenian art, Far Eastern art, decorative arts and the works of Rene Lalique. It consists of an auditorium for concerts and conferences. The park is included in the museum which houses a modern art center and open house auditorium. The museum displays the largest collection of 20th and 21st-Century art, Portuguese art, British art collection, a large collection of photographs, drawings, and Armenian works of art.
